In spite of the name (Suomi means Finland in Finnish), this is not a Finnish model, but a Danish. Mogens Erdrup designed the ME 26 Suomi in 1946 for the Nordic championships that were held in Finland, where he placed 3:d in the A2 category. At about the same time the Danish national model flying association, Dansk Modelflyver Union, announced a design competition. Suomi won, and was adopted as the standard A2 model. A kit was made available by DMI, Dansk Modelflyve Industri, and for many years Suomi was the most common design in Danish competitions. In 1950, the design was improved by Per Weishaupt, who added auto-rudder and dethermalizer.
